PAINT YOUR DREAMS: Abstract Painting (for beginners)
Want to communicate without words? Maybe paint the things you could never say in words. Learn how to use color and composition to express emotions or a narrative. Utilize different sources such as imagination, pictures or other means to find your own voice and visual language in the tradition of Salvador Dali, Picasso or Paul Klee. Exercises will promote experimentation with oil sticks. Students will start with oil pastels (Craypas). Oil pastels permit the artist to work more directly without spending time mixing colors on the palette or working with the various mediums. You can get painterly effects and blend colors but they dry quicker than oil paint. Oil pastels were invented by Pablo Picasso to have the richness of oil paint and the directness of pastels.

There will be two sessions in the beginning in which students will articulate their goals in relation to their work, and familiarize themselves with each other’s work. Three sessions will be spent looking at art in galleries, museums, and in the studios of more established artists. These visits will be selected with the students’ work and goals in mind. There will be one sessions towards the end of the course to assess developments, and plan for the future.
