The summer course will work with oil pastels or craypas. Oil pastels permit the artist to work more directly without spending time mixing colors on the palette or working with the various mediums. you can get painterly effects as well as blend colors but they dry quicker than oil paint.  Oil pastels were invented by Pablo Picasso to have the richness of oil paint and the directness of pastels. Students may choose to paint in oils after the first session.

Recommended Paint Brands:
* Gamblin-makes a good consistency of oil paints that are also very affordable.
* Old Holland-Great consistency of paint and excellent color but they can be very expensive.
* Georgian and some Williamsburg paints- tend to be on the buttery side of oil paint meaning their consistency is very thick and creamy.
* Windsor & Newton, Utrecht, are a decent oil brand with a few less than adequate colors.
Student grade paints are fine for beginners and intermediate artists and usually even large tubes are moderately priced; however, better quality paint does make a difference.

OPTIONAL SUPPLIES
* Old Masters Brush Cleaner or liquid dish soap (Dawn)
* Hand protection: Latex Gloves(recommended) or Winsor Newton Barrier Cream for hands
* Palette Knife - trowel shape preferred, not too small. This is use to mix paint

SUGGESTED BRUSHES BY THOMAS LEGASPI:
* Brushes of different sizes- Rounds and/or, Filberts. Preferably- # 4 and # 8 round and #10 and # 12 filbert
Natural hair brushes like red sable are more expensive but they produce smooth flowing strokes where as bristle brushes are rougher and produce more pronounced strokes yet are inexpensive- a matter of choice. Ideally a few brushes of soft and a few of a stiffer variety are desirable.

SUGGESTED BRUSHES BY KEN MILLINGTON:
Brushes (soft and bristle) Rounds, Brights, Flats- No. 6, 10, 12 (maybe a fine one for detail)
