Support Our Jewish Community Programs
The Educational Alliance is a Jewish organization, founded in 1889 by German Jewish community leaders to help the burgeoning wave of Eastern European Jewish immigrants assimilate. During the early days of The Alliance, it was a place where the Jewish immigrants of the Lower East Side learned English, took citizenship classes, and prepared their children for school.
Today, the Lower East Side is a neighborhood in transition, a dynamic and diverse mix of ethnicities and cultures. Recently, The Educational Alliance has reaffirmed its Jewish identity and its commitment to continuing to serve the Downtown Jewish community. Through Jewish preschool education, Jewish arts and culture, the celebration of Jewish holidays, classes in Yiddish and Hebrew, and our outreach program for homeless or isolated Jews, we continue The Educational Alliance's rich tradition of serving the Jewish community.
