Welcome!

At The Educational Alliance Preschool on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, we believe young children learn through active involvement with a variety of materials in a warm, nurturing environment. This builds their self-confidence and fosters a curiosity and enthusiasm for learning and a joyful experience of life.

Our experienced, certified staff want children to feel comfortable and safe while they explore, inquire, experiment, create, question, and celebrate.  We strive to create an environment where they feel safe to learn and where they are respected, empowered, trusted and listened to.  In short, a place to which they want to come back each day, because it’s theirs.                                 [back to top]

Our Philosophy
Young children learn by doing. They don’t learn about the world as much as they construct it anew, through active engagement and physical experimentation -- finding out how things (and people) work.

Through play children learn about the social world and each other.  A well-designed environment, along with caring, attentive, professional teachers, offers the child the opportunity to freely interact with materials and people, all the while busily constructing his or her own sense of what is real.

Our Program
Our daily schedule allows for group time, small group activities, and individual play. We get exercise every day in our full size gymnasium and on our rooftop playgrounds.  Children have Kinderdance and Music classes in our large, bright and airy classrooms;  this year we’re happy to announce that Bilingual Birdies will be teaching a foreign language class, suitable for two and three year olds

By observing the strengths and interests of each child, our teachers create activities that allow children to explore the world, make discoveries, and develop their cognitive, physical, spiritual, emotional and social capacities.

All children are welcome to our school and our classrooms reflect the cultural richness of the Lower East Side. As a Jewish preschool, our curriculum is grounded in the ethical teachings of our heritage.  We learn about Jewish holidays, enjoy Kosher snacks, share the joy of Shabbat and Rosh Chodesh, and learn together what it means to live in a diverse community.

In 2009, we debuted a new Afternoon Two classroom for twos and "young" twos. This ‘after-nap' class is from 2:00 - 4:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Children must be turning two by December 1 to participate and a parent or adult caregiver must accompany the child in the classroom until the child's 2nd birthday. By the end of December, we expect that most of the little ones will be able to be in class without their grown-up.

Our experienced Twos teacher and an assistant offer a variety of classroom experiences designed to optimize growth and development and create a joyful experience for the young learner. (For information on classes for children under 2 years old, click here.)

The Preschool offers families of 2 - 4 year olds a varied schedule to choose from, including day care. All day, half day, and extended day classes are available, 2, 3, or 5 days a week. Early drop off begins at 8:00 a.m. and our late pick-up is at 6:00 p.m. Half-day students attend morning sessions.
