Day-time Bargains

Classes fill quickly, please register early.  Please note that these day-time bargain classes do not include additional use of the studio beyond class time.

CERAMICS
Learn time-honored techniques of coil and slab construction and create functional and decorative objects such as bowls, cups or vases. Ceramic techniques will include the use of slips, glazes and other surface decorations. While throwing on the wheel will be explored, mastery of the technique takes additional time to learn and practice.

CHINESE INK PAINTING 
An introduction to the principles of this ancient and expressive tradition—the basic brush strokes for plants and flowers, the use of just the right amount of ink and water, an understanding of imbalance and empty space, and how to show perspective without the use of shadows.

COLLAGE
Collage is one of the most prevalent art techniques in modern art. Artists from Picasso to Kiki Smith use collage.  Students will create their own collages using texture, rhythm and other formal elements of art.

DRAWING ON LOCATION    new class!
Drawing is a response to the visible world.  Let’s meet the world head on. This class takes Josh Bayer's popular Basic drawing classes a step outside of the studio and into the parks and streets of our grand shared city. Classes focus on reproducing light effects with a variety of tools, drawing architecture, landscape and capturing movement. Class will visit NY Landmarks and a few places off the beaten path.

BEGINNING OIL PAINTING

Discover the creative and technical advantages of oil painting. Learn the basics of preparing a color palette to a variety of other techniques as you paint still-lifes and interiors. Exercises will develop skills in observation and painting form, depth and a sense of light.
