Spring is here, it is time to renew, revitalize and realize your artistic urges. Our 8-week spring term is the ideal length to try something new or improve your skills. Meet new people and add creativity to your life in the large airy studios. In just eight weeks you will draw, paint, sculpt or explore pottery. Spring will fly by, and maybe change your life forever!
It's time to start using the creative side of your mind and get your hands dirty! The art studio can be the one place, for a few hours per week, to enrich and renew your spirit, energy and mind. Life in New York can be very stressful; in the Alliance, we create a place for you to leave behind your daily life to discover and explore your creative side.
Absolute beginners find encouragement and direction in a welcoming community, and experienced artists often come to refresh their skills or learn a new medium. Your participation in an art class is a great investment; you will get weekly benefits as you build art skills that can provide a lifetime of pleasure Get creative and brighten up your Spring.I look forward to seeing you in the studios.

The Art School provides opportunities such as:
- Open Studio Time: Use of the studio for an additional 3 hours per week to work in addition to class time for the duration of the course's term (when the studio is available). Open studio times begin after the 2nd week of classes and the schedule is posted on the studio doors;
- Free Figure Drawing Workshop: On Sunday afternoons
- Gallery Group Exhibition: Students are eligible to participate in our annual Student Exhibit held in the Ernest Rubenstein Gallery in June
- Discounted special workshops and artists' talks
- Invitations to all receptions in the Rubenstein Gallery
- Student Discount Identification Card
HISTORY OF THE ART SCHOOL
The Art School was started in 1895 to provide arts enrichment to young immigrants and neighborhood adolescents and adults. It soon became known for its quality programs, attracting people from all over the city. Such celebrated artists who studied or taught here include: Louise Nevelson, Adolph Gottlieb, Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman, Jules Olitski, Leonard Baskin, Peter Blume, Chaim Gross, Alexander Kruse, Ben Shahn and the Soyer brothers.
In the 1970's and 80's the art school hosted the Alliance of Figurative Artists, The group of representation artists held weekly gathering to discuss painting issues.

TRAVEL DIRECTIONS:
We are located in the heart of the Lower East Side of Manhattan, just above Chinatown. Convenient to subways and buses. 197 East Broadway, at the corner of Jefferson St.
By subway: Half a block from the F-train at the East Broadway stop; near the J, M, Z trains at Essex/Delancey St.; B, D trains to Grand St.
By bus: MTA buses #9 or #15 to Canal Street, #14A to Grand St, #22 to Jefferson St. By car: Located at 197 East Broadway, between Jefferson and Clinton Streets.
On street parking meters cost twenty-five cents per 15-minutes. Parking meters are in effect six days per week until 7pm.
